Reading The Cards (Locked, NFB)

The cards were foggy, unclear. They didn't tell her anything at all until she laid out the last one.

"They know," murmured Drusilla. She got up and went to the door of Angelus' room.

"Plan on it," Angelus said, once he'd made sure everything was clear. Cellphone went into his backpack, Blackberry went into his pocket. "Now then, if anybody asks you where Daddy went you'll say...?"

Drusilla's eyes widened and she covered her mouth in a look of mock surprise. "The mulberry bush ate him, and then he dug a hole for the puppy to sleep in."

She pulled Angelus towards her for a goodbye kiss. "Rosemary's for remembrance," murmured Drusilla.

"Like I'd ever forget," Angelus replied. He gave Dru a lingering kiss, then pulled away for one last task.

He picked up his dorm phone phone and left Bel a voice mail message. That done, he went to the window.

"Out of curiosity," he asked as he undid the window's locks. "What kind of timeline am I looking at?"

Drusilla spread her hands. "The lark sang in the morning. I couldn't hear her." She shook her head. "I'd expect I have to hurry to be home in time for tea."

"Good to know." Angelus pulled the window open. "Appreciate the visit, Dru, as always. I'd say more but the joy of you being psychic is that I rarely have to."

He hoisted his bag which, amongst other things, contained his laptop and his notebooks. He briefly thought about what a shame it was that he couldn't pack more clothes, or do one last trip to his locker but oh well. He didn't get to be this old by lingering.

"Catch you later, princess," he said. He stepped through the window, briefly balanced on the outside ledge, checked to be sure nobody was around, then stepped out to do a straight drop down four stories onto the ground below.

He landed, no worse for wear, and immediately vamp speeded it into the shadows, and from there to parts unknown.

Drusilla turned and slipped out of the room, then back down to the basement. She kept to the shadows, hiding in them, and moving so that no one would notice her.
